Upgrading processor

Hi all
I will shortly be hoping to upgrade to a AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz (Socket AM2) -, I am currently running an Athlon 64 X2 4200+. Is it just a case of removing the old processor and plugging the new one in? Is there anything I should be aware of that may cause problems? I know these sound silly questions but want to get it right!

I have an ASUS A8M2N Nodusm, I have checked the site and it states it as an AM2 motherboard.

LOL thats the truth bit confused. I am looking for advice so I am willing to listen options. I am looking to upgrade the speed so would there be a better option? also excuse the stupid question but I take it that the core 2 is compatible with my MB?

I would make sure your case can take an ATX motherboard. It may well only take micro-ATX

How would i find this information out? sheesh this is getting expensive wife gonna kill me

So i think then from what I have found out on the internet and from you I will be better off building a new system inside a new case? keeping my hard drive and ram and GPU for the time being and putting it all together in a nice new home! Sounds easy but reality is gonna be a bit different i imagine! Any thoughts?
