Can this be done to a bigger hard drive? How? What size is the hard drive i.e. notebook size? How do you get the PS3 software on to it?

It has been done before. Check out DCEMU forum or you-tube...there is a video somewhere.

Be careful when you change the HD, make sure the replacement have the same rpm (5400 iirc) and not 7200. Apparently, it will bring about a slow down in the reading and writing process...Goodluck.

There has been a 160g or so added on to it. It will recognise it automaticaly i think. Let Joebob come and shed more light....I think he did one or plan on doing so.

Well ive found this.

http://www.gamersreports.com/article/43/ (does have a US competitor link on the page to the hard drive, will remove if needed)

Thinking about putting this hard drive in a 20Gb PS3.

That seem about right but do you research on the 5400 and 7200rmp issues. I belive something was mentioned about it in the dcemu forum.

As for which hard drive, I honestly dont know...Im a computer novice. :)

I upgraded mine to a Seagate Momentus 120Gb 5400rpm 2.5" SATA HDD. It was dead simple to do and the PS3 OS isn't installed on the actually HDD so it just auto formats and sets itself up when you boot it up.

I followed the vid on youtube for a guide on how to do it.

:)

I suppose there's bound to be a limit but I wouldn't imagine we would be reaching it any size soon as the biggest 2.5" SATA HDD's out are about 160Gb as far as I can recall!

youd just need a longer sata cable and longer power cable i think , might involve soldering to make em longer unless places we probly cant mention sell generic extensions

then just gaffa tape the raptor to the case ghetto style

i was under the impression it tells you how to remove the hdd bay and stuff in the manual althought this thread is making me not believe that anymore

i know men dont read manuals but can anyone whos got one confirm it ?

Happy days :D

edit - Just looked at the online manual on playstation.com. It does indeed tell you how to remove & replace the HDD, therefore non warranty voiding :D
