Hi All,

Changing from an IBM m1015 (basic, no cache, no BBU) to an m5015 (cache, BBU, lovely!).

I've changed many a controller on a dell server but never an IBM. Im hoping it should be a straight swap and accept config detected from disks?

As they are both IBM cards im hoping its all straight forward, I cant seem to find any documentation on the redbooks though to back this up.

Server is getting a full backup before doing anything ofcourse :)

Never played with the IBM jobbies, but the LSI equivalents are a 9220 and 9260. From what I've read about moving RAID arrays between the two (just got myself a 9265 and like to know what I might be getting myself into) it should be effectively transparent.
Of course, backup first.

What ever the documentation says plan for a complete rebuild..

you will get no thanks for that.. if it breaks its your fault, if it does not increase performance its your fault.. if it has some weird compatibility issue in the future its your fault... if its works without problem they will begrudge the invoice!

1) if its a customer tell them it does not support any other cards and make the keep what they have or buy new...

2) if its your own company do that same as 1

3) if its your own mess about machine do what ever!

live servers you add disks, ram or another cpu in an empty socket you don't upgrade controllers and you think very carefully before changing the cpu
