Upgrading RAM in R900

Upgraded one of ours today with the correct Dell RAM, taking it from 96GB to 256GB. Turn the server on, and it just sits there. No VGA output, yet no fault on the display. Press and hold the info button and it says MEMC. I've tried some basic interrupts on a USB keyboard but nothing.
I'm going to wire a monitor up directly to the VGA port tomorrow rather than going through the KVM, if that fails then I'll have to start work out what's going on. Most of my experience is HP servers so I wasn't sure if this is normal behaviour and it's taking its time checking memory. I left it for around 90 minutes then came home, but I need to resolve it tomorrow (ideally with the new RAM in!).
