Hi all,

I know it's pretty difficult to do, and expensive if i go to Apple store to have this done.
But upgrading the ram on this machine, the Apple site says the mac mini only supports upto 2Gb ram but you can buy 4Gb ram (2x2Gb) from OcUk.
Is it ok to use all this ram? Or should i stick to just the 2Gb, if i decide to upgrade?

Cheers All :D

It's a bit pointless getting 2x2Gb when the machine will only support 2Gig :) It might not even boot.

2 gig is plenty for pretty much anything you will be throwing at a mini :)

It's not difficult to do the ram, just a pain in the bum with the wallpaper scrapers and everything. Just remember don't be scared of the horrendous cracking noises, they're normal :D

It's quite amusing that the official Apple documents for taking apart the Mac Mini actually list the type of scraper you should buy, and how to modify it so it fits correctly :)

I want to upgrade my ram on my mini. I bought it on the 16th october, what generation is it? 1st or 2nd? The 2nd generation seems to have lower specs than the current ones, so is there a 3rd generation mini?

You have a 2nd Generation Mini.

The Mini before had a Core Duo, your one has a Core 2 Duo chip amongst other things.

No 3rd Generation yet..

In which case..

Your machine is 3G (Core 2 Duo), the 2G was the Core Duo, and the 1G was the G4 Chip.

No mention of a 4G product, as of yet.
