hi all, was thinking to upgrade to 6 gigs of RAM finally, and plunge into the purchase of win7 64bit, my question is, to fill the other 3 RAM slots, does the memory have to be exactly the same as my original 3gigs? or can i get a totally different version, obviously sticking to the same make of corsair?

It might, it might not.

The ram will all run at the lowest speed/loosest timming ram you have in the system.

and try to get ram with the same voltage requirements as the stuff you have, or it will just be a pain in the ***

would it be better just to sell the 3gb i have and just purchase a 6gb kit? i think would be less expensive tht way and i then have the future upgrade of another 6gb,

I have had all sorts of problems installing different brands of RAM in the same PC before. As said above, with the RAM prices high, you may even make money if you sold your 3GB kit now in order to subsidise the cost of a 6GB kit. SO I would advocate getting the 6gig to replace the 3 gigs
