I bought http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-012-AD from OCuk and just tried installing it this morning. I removed my old ram, two sticks of 2gb Corsair memory and put these sticks in the same slots on the motherboard.

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM3/M4A77TD/ This is my motherboard, and the exact model I bought is on their approved vendors list.

It's the first time I tried installing some ram myself, so I wanted to know what could be wrong or if it's a component error? The system did not boot when the new ram was in, but when I took it out and put the old ram back in it's working fine again.

Regards,
Taka

You need to reset the Bios before inserting the new RAM. Its obviously does not like one of the settings from the old stuff.

I will try again tomorrow, all the settings were on auto detect for the RAM before I tried (as far as I was aware).

If you could let me know where I set those values I would appreciate it. Will update with success/failure tomorrow ; )

Thanks.

I tried changing settings in bios, system still wouldn't boot correctly. Have reverted to original settings and put in old ram for now.

Spoke to OCuk and they'll be sending out a return thing soon. Any suggestions on what RAM to get instead of this one, or should I get the same again and hope it was a one off fault with that batch?

Kingston Hyper X or Corsair as you had before. Most DDR3 memory is fully compatible with any DDR3 chipset. May have been a bad stick.
