upgrading router for fttc

hello

I currently have a netgear dgn2000 with the latest firmware and my isp is o2, both I am happy with.

Next year o2 are releasing their own version of Infinity, Hooray!!

I am looking at the netgear dgnd3700 which seems to be fttc ready. is it worth upgrading to this? I know that i would benefit on using the 4port gig-eth but how would the router access the fttc ? through the rj11 or the wan port? I'm confused about that part. my line is adsl2+ so i won't have issues with the router.
 
i don't know where you got your info from ... it's wrong! I got the info officially from O2 last week,., as i'm out of contract with them.. i even asked the manager down at my local o2 store.. it does depend on the exchanges though.
Hastings (NDHAS) will be live in March. my concern is that the new router has a wan port and the rj11. so if they provided a fttc router i would either use my existing router and use the network port to plug in the fttc router OR the new router's wan port to the provided fttc router. Or use the new Router completely since no-one knows how fttc is being ported to the house. Openreach are confident that the copper lines stays at the house to each cabinet in the street area. Its from the cabinet to the exchange that's different.. If this is correct then I could use either existing routers and not bother with a new fttc router provided by o2 or Whoever. That's what i understand.. but i admit it is very confusing!!
 
I'm not sure when O2 will be offering Fttc but they did say it would be next year and they will be announcing it as soon it is live! that's what they told me. I don't think O2 are joined with Be anymore ! i can't get Be Broadband where i am, which does seem strange.. It will be interesting to find out what happens....so do I upgrade to the dgnd3700 or not? i have checked the product specs. I have read mixed reviews from people about this router..
 
I checked with O2 last week about my connection and they were able to tell me that I'm on adsl2+ and I don't think that is the same as LLU. I have read issues about the dgnd3700 disconnecting because it doesn't like LLU.
 
i had an o2 outage today ... very rare.. but what was funny was the response from O2.

1/ they said to find a fault i should use their own o2 wireless router.
So I said NO. Their experts setup my existing router for access , so a setting must have changed..
2/ spoke to a supervisor..... talking on the phone He said "are you by the master socket?" ... yes I replied... .. the supervisor then said "disconnect everything from the socket".. (Duh?!?.. ) so i asked " are you sure? do you know what that does?" ... he replied "no". I then asked "how am i to talk to you? .. the phone is on that line"..

What a bunch of muppets...

I do hope O2 learn from this.... This is going on the survey report tomorrow when I get it...
I'm also out of contract now... Not good for them if they want to keep custom
 
ok.. another question .. line bonding ? worth it ? i'm thinking Line bonding OR fttc. Be are offering LineBonding at additional cost.. fttc has a setup cost anyway..

good point that.. I might just sit tight and put up with O2's incompetence until next year. I'm waiting until tomorrow to re-install a different router on my network. Now got a dgn2200, Wireless is better on it, so maybe my mbp should be faster on it..! got 2x dgn2000 to get rid of..
 
had a BTOpenreach engineer come out to me today. had issues with o2 over the weekend, so an appointment was made. 10/10 for O2 dealing with this. My line has been fixed and now is double what i was getting before... now i'm getting 11.2mbps.. woo hoo!!
there was a lot of interference on my line,, but the engineer tested afterwards and on one of the tests out of 100. my line scored 85.. that's the highest he has ever seen. !! woo hoo !!
