Upgrading soon, 3 potential setup, your thoughts please

Hi Guys I need a bit help choosing my way down the upgrade path and would like some opinions please, below i have put together 3 potential routes I could take, I am open to other suggestions \ recommendations, I like to overclock and tinker and tweak , Play games, media encoding, internet etc

your i7 build doesn't include a heatsink, do you need one.

this is better if you can afford it.

has better timings and will allow overclocking, as its capable of running upto 1666mhz.

that's also a similar problem with the ram in your i7 spec, especially when you said you like to overclock.

thanx for the input, I didn't realise the 1600mhz ram was pretty much just about as cheap as the 1066, nice one

From a few benchmarks i saw those 6 core cpu are quite good and at the price it might be a good buy.

It's good for games that use CPU cores to the fullest like Battlefield Bad Company 2, but for most current and older games it's not as good as the Quads on general, since they weren't written to use the extra cores well or run the games as heavy-threaded.

yeah between the x6 and the i7 i am leaning more towards the x6 as it will be more future proof for games and will help out a little for the video encoding etc although I might even hold out for a PII x4 960T BE for the unlocked multiplier and see if I can unlock the 2 extra cores and save a little bit of cash, not looking to make the purchase till late nxt month but just prepping now cos it alway takes me ages to decide. btw budget is £500 tops
