Hi all

Its been a while since I last upgraded and since then I havent really been following the current trend of whats good, and what fits etc.

At the moment, Im stuck with a Socket 754 AMD Sempron 64 3200+, with 1gb Ram and a ATI Radeon 9600XT 256Mb (AGP)

Im looking to getting a more up to date setup, one that is upgradable in the future, but I am on a limited budget (about £600)

Heres a couple of things I was looking at, just wanted opinions on which is faster for the price paid, and whether certain items work better with others....

Usage is mainly gaming, surfing...nothing memory intensive like graphics processing or movie editting.

So to start with....AMD/Intel
- I seem to have my eye on either the AMD 64 X2 (AM2) 3800+ (roughly £100), or the Intel Core Duo E6300 (£120)...motherboards priced at about £70 for both

Looking at tomshardware, the Intel looks faster, but what about stability and for gaming?

And the other thing.... ATI/Nvidia
- That MSI 7900GTO 512Mb looks tasty....but nothing from the ATI range has jumped out at me, is there anything about the £180 range that compares with the 7900GTO?

Compatibility - Ive heard that ATI & AMD work together well, but Ive not seen any figures, is there any combinations that work well/not so well?

Thanks in advance

btw the £600 included a £60 hard drive, £50 for a new case, and £160 for DDR2 ram

Check my rig in the sig, i paid around £700 - £800

Id deffo reccomend the conroe, and definately the 6300, i have managed to get that on 1.35 volts (1.325 is stock i think)

Great for gaming, handles battlefield 2 no sweat 90 - 100fps with everything maxed, counterstrike source, well im getting min 150fps

I moved from a athlon 1.8XP and wow the difference is incredible!

Id deffo reccomend the extra £20 for the chip, a hell of a lot of perfromance for little money!

Just out of interest
