Well I'm thinking of upgrading my CPU, mobo and ram. Going Intel this time, been looking at Q6700 and a Q9445, not sure which to go for as I may think about overclocking later, if I do OC I’m not think of stupid speeds 3 to 3.2Ghz would be great.

I’ve also been looking at motherboards and have found 2 I like

or this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-127-GI

Which do you think would be better?

Also this is the memory I am looking at

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp... 2GB DDR2 XMS2 DHX PC2-6400C4DHX TwinX (2x1GB)

I've also heard Intel are cutting prices on the 20th of July has any one else heard this?

The second motherboard (Gigabyte) isn't suitable for use with that memory as it is DDR3 only, the first motherboard is a combo motherboard and they tend to fall between two stools - not being great at anything.

What is your budget here? You might find out that someone will be able to advise of better options.

my budget is £350 Max

Just checked the Gigabyte dose take DRR2

Sorry that is my fault for reading the title rather than the model number although OcUK really need to sort out some of the titles and descriptions for these motherboards. My comments about combo motherboards still apply though.

If those are the three parts you want then I might suggest something like this.

OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C4 Dual Channel Platinum Revision 2 XTC Series DDR2 (OCZ2P800R22GK) £23.99
(£28.19) £23.99
(£28.19)
Asus P5Q Intel P45 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £69.99
(£82.24) £69.99
(£82.24)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 LGA775 'Yorkfield' 2.66GHz 12MB-cache (1333FSB) Processor - Retail £179.99
(£211.49) £179.99
(£211.49)
Sub Total : £273.97

do we have any reviews about the P5Q on stability and OCing?

because i remember the ASUS P5N-E and how amazing it was with Ocing etc, but a MASSIVE load were getting killed easily, and were very unstable, and had FBS holes.

£350 budget on a motherboard.. Will you marry me? :p

Sorry already happily married :)

I'm Interested in the mobo, would be nice to read some reviews on the board like shaffaaf27 said. I've also looked at the OCZ memory before and do quite like it.

does "combo" just refer to the fact it supports both ddr2 & 3?

Yep, while it might initially sound like a good idea they don't tend to have the stability or features of a motherboard that just picks one memory type and I'd actually argue that they are relatively pointless for most anyway.

Steer clear of the Asus P5KC Combo. There have been loads of problems with this board. Just check the Asus forums. Out of all the combo boards about the only one worth bothering with is the Gigabyte.
