Hi guys,

I am upgrading my current system but did not check the maximum memory useable by vista HP 32bit. As a result my 8Gb of memory will go to waste.

As there is a new version of windows on the horizon is it worth me downloading the Rc of W7 to run my system instead of purchasing vista HP 64bit? Or is the W7 RC not stable enough for day to day use yet?

Any advice welcome.

Have you got the OEM or Retail version of Vista? Retail should allow you 64bit as part of the package, OEM I don't think covers both.

Windows 7 is well worth a go either way.

im sure you're HP32bit key will work with HP64 aswell, just email miscrosoft or give them a call and ask for a HPx64 install disk, £7 i think and reinstall it :p

Mmmm this is interesting, however is it legal? I have paid for the software afterall and will only be using one key...

Oh and i own the OEM version.

of course it is legal,

your using your legit BOUGHT serial key on x64 rather than x32.

for that £7 (well was £7 when i called them up last year)
they sent me 1 installation disk with every version of vista on it, in both x32 and x64 versions.

:D

You cant do this if its OEM version.
I'd stick W7 on and use it till march next year when it expires. Love Vista, but windows 7 is just more polished

Yes you can do it. Wether or not it is morally right to do so is up to the individual!

Nope, it's fine. The Windows Vista OEM license covers you for both 32-bit and 64-bit as highlighted in the Sticky - Windows Licensing Info now including Vista!.

I would really only recommend using an operating system which is in it's release state, so Windows Vista. By all means, try the Windows 7 Release Candidate but use it more as a testing operating system along side Windows Vista and not as your main and only operating system.
