Upgrading the ancient TV

Hi folks,

I'm looking to upgrade my horrendously old 32" Toshiba in the living room for something better - and stick that one in the bedroom.

I'm looking between 43" and 49". There are two TVs I am comparing but need some wisdom on. My viewing distance is around 3m and the TV will be mounted on the chimney breast.

43" 4K : http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/lg/43"-4k-smart-tv/lg-43uh603v
£369

49" 1080 : http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/lg/49lh604v/lg-49lh604v
£429

Obviously the size increase means the price goes up - but the smaller set is 4K and the larger set is 1080. Honestly, most of my content is 1080.. I don't often watch 4k Netflix shows. Is it worth getting the plain 1080 panel - will my content look worse on the smaller 4K panel from that viewing distance?

I would've expected the 4K price to be higher so I must be missing a trick here.. any advice is welcome!

Thanks

The ones you've linked to are both 1080p. Did you mean this 4K one? http://www.richersounds.com/product/tv---all/lg/43"-4k-smart-tv/lg-43uh603v

If so it's worth noting that it won't display proper HDR due to being an 8-bit panel, so you won't see the benefits of it as much as you would if it were 10-bit.

I'd go for the 49" in this scenario, at your viewing distance that kind of size increase makes a big difference.

6 year guarantee on "ON THE VAST MAJORITY OF TVs FOR OUR VIP MEMBERS for VIP members" (whatever that means)... right? It isn't a 6 year guarantee specifically for that TV as I understand it, it's either a blanket statement so might not included this TV, or includes the others as the message is present on the other TV's page too.

Woops :D link updated in the post - yes that's the one I was looking at.

Also - it's free to become a VIP member (you just sign up to their mailing list IIRC) and both TVs come with the 6 year warranty. Other sites are £10-20 cheaper for both panels but the warranty is the clincher me imo.

Appreciate the advice though. HDR wasn't something I was too fussed about.. it was more about weighing up whether my 1080 material will look like crap on the 4K.. and whether that was worth future-proofing my living room for another 6 years by buying the 4K set..
