Afternoon chaps,

After a bit of a hiatus from PC gaming, I have been getting massively into Overwatch recently. That being the case, I'd like to upgrade my rig and monitor so that I can crank the settings. Current set up is:

  • Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 (small overclock)
  • Sapphire HD 7850 2048MB GDDR5
  • Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
  • Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbs
  • Kingston HyperX Genesis Grey 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit
  • Corsair VX 450W ATX

I'm thinking about picking up a G-Sync monitor, and fancy the Dell S2716DG.

Obviously that then requires a GPU upgrade.

Do I also need to upgrade the CPU? Or will the aging 2500K continue to cut the mustard?

I guess a new PSU may also be required?

No fixed budget, but keen to get the best bang for my buck, so to speak.

Thanks!

The best Performance/£ comes from the 1060 6gb or RX480 8gb. I personally would say the i5 2500K would be fine but I imagine in certain circumstances it will hold back a 1060/RX480 but for the large majority of games it will be perfectly fine. I have a 1070 running off a Corsair HX520 which is approximately 9 years old, works perfectly. The HD7850 has a TDP of 110W the 1060 has a TDP of 120W so very little in it in terms of extra load.

Thanks - the 1060 6gb looks pretty reasonable, and seems like the way to go if I'm planning for a G-Sync monitor.

Would a RAM upgrade to 16gb of 2133MHz do much for gaming?
