Hello everyone!

I'm interested in upgrading my computer with new components. Basically i need a new cpu, mobo, RAM and graphics card. I've got the rest of the components. I'm interested in making it as future proof as possible, so that it's ready for the big new games coming out (Crysis, UT4 etc etc), HOWEVER! My budget is limited to up to £400, so i'm looking for the best parts available at around that limit (i'll give or take £450 etc).

I also want to know whether or not it's worth getting Vista Ultimate OEM. I quite liked Vista when i used the RC2 and stuff, but i'm not sure whether it's worth the upgrade. I'd imagine it is if i want to future proof my computer as much as possible.

I also understand that DX10 is popping out, so whatever components i get need to be ready for that as well.

I've been currently looking at these three things:

Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600

Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650

Not too sure about RAM

8800GT 512MB

If someone can recommend better stuff then feel free. I'm just browsing at the moment.

Thank you.

Quick change actually:

EDITED:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe 775
Intel Quad 6600
Corsair 2gb Kit
Point of View 8800GTS 640MB

Heh sorry, it's not my picture you see. It belongs to someone who built that computer earlier.

EDIT: Strangely when i'm just checking prices now on no competitors please they've all gone up compared to that image.

I was thinking along the lines of:

Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail
Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 & DDR3 Motherboard
OCZ 4GB (2 x 2GB) PC2-5400C5
EVGA GeForce 8800 GT 512MB Superclocked "Crysis Edition"
Tuniq Tower 120-LFB CPU Cooler (Socket 478/754/939/940/AM2/LGA775)

Should be roughly around £440 without shipping.

That sounds ok. Will it handle things such as Crysis or UT4 though?

I would say it'll be fine, you should be able to push it to 3Ghz and higher with ease. Just don't expect full settings on crysis :P.

And what PSU you got?

Anyone verify that it all works together :P just in case.

slow loading pic's :(.

ok, done.

It looks fine although i would change the 620W to the 520W and buy a cheaper CPU (however the quad will be more future proof).

Ok i've changed the PSU to the 500W instead and i'm content with the price. I'll see if i can get the money together now.

Ok, i'm changing the question slightly now. Since this is likely to cost me around £580, i'm going to ask this:

Are the parts that i have chosen the best available for a gaming rig and future proof enough, or should i choose other parts?

In other words, for £580 or less could i get better parts, or is what i've chosen good?

Parts needed are:

CPU
Processor
PSU
RAM
Graphics Card

Thanks.
