Still running my i7-930 from 2010 with 8gb ram and a strix 970 - all good on my 1920x1200 but i'm looking for a screen boost and general upgrade.

Will keep my case and all peripherals, PSU, SSD and 2x HDDs; possibly adding a new 256/500 SSD (can get these form the US to save some $$.

Need screen advice - I'll use it for gaming and films etc - mobo/cpu/ram and whatever GPU option is most sensible for 1440. Everything replaced can be sold on. Also considering watercooling the cpu in my cm storm stryker case.

Budget 1200 but flexible as I'm happy to buy a couple parts now, some later, some from US.

Need: Screen
CPU
Mobo
ram
GPU

Thanks!

If you don't have to pay import tax, just get everything state side lol .
Yeah I mean the US/UK thing will vary depending on worth, if the ram is 10 quid difference I'll just source it from here. If the difference is bigger I'll do US.

I'm not sure on CPU, I've had AMD GPUs but not CPU; I've been so happy with my 930 that I'm really looking for something that'll give that level of reliability and performance again. From what I've read ryzen 5 is about the level I want, I'm still reading about the intel equivalents and whether an intel option would better match the 1070ti for all round performance.

I'm considering a 1070ti which seems to be pretty solid for 1440.

I did a build log using Ryzen 1600 and Intel i5 8400 with gtx 1070 ti and Vega 56, Intel has slight edge for gaming. But prices has risen so much it's not worth it. Was the best priced core to performance released from Intel. Might be lower in US. But here, Ryzen 1600 to save around £100 for board and core

I'm still running same CPU as you, and games run great @ 1440p

Xeon 5670 @ 4ghz
AMD 480
24GB RAM triple channel.

How about just upgrading, replace CPU, RAM, new GPU.
Upgrading is what I want - CPU/RAM/MOBO + GPU. Need the screen too. Is the 1070ti not going to be held back by a 930?

Yes, get a new i7.

Just do what I said lol, I literally went from:

1200p dell 2407WFP
i7 920
12gb ram
gtx 780 glh

to

1440p dell u2715h
i7 6700k
16gb ram
1080 strix

Well I've been playing latest games at 1440p, so I don't think it's held back at all- you can get xeons dirt cheap.

You may want to upgrade, but is it worth it, if your system updated to xeon, more RAM plays all games at your native res, maxed out, is it worth changing the whole system? I'm getting 100fps+ in war thunder, high settings at 1440p, and been running 1200p on previous monitor

From my usage I don't think it is.

It's pretty much same situation as AMD FX chip to Ryzen Chip. Wasn't a bottle neck, not with the 8 core chips bit switching to Ryzen gave 10+ min FPS due to better design .
Same with current Intel gens over the First gen

What is the importance of freesync when buying an nvidia gpu - it's just an unused feature?
I'm looking at the
asus MG279Q
dell S2716PG

right now

It needs to be IPS and I'm looking mainly at 27" 144hz screens.

You won't be able to use adaptive v-sync, if you buy a 144hz freesync monitor with gsync GPU it'll act like any "old" style v-sync monitor, albeit at 144hz. Why does it need to be IPS?

There's also VA, same one I have for example the Samsung 27" 1440p 144hz HDR.

Which is that? The curved CF27FG70?

I feel as though a 1070ti is ample for 1440 and that the top i7s would be overkill?

Ok so I've decdided on the acer XF270HU; acer predator XB271HU; ASUS MG279Q or Samsung C27HG70.

In terms of interiors I'm set on a 1070ti,
Then it's a matter of i7 7700k/i7 8700k / RAM/ mobo.

I do some video work, but it's light, beyond that I do some streaming but the primary use will be gaming.

My 930 far outlasted the 5870 I bought with it, the 570 after and is doing ok with the 970. I'm looking for a similar longevity from a replacement cpu/mobo/ram

Interesting as I am looking at a new PC (my current one is 10 years old) which will be an 8700K + 1080ti STRIX. I already have the same U2715H monitor as you, that I bought earlier this year for console gaming / homeworking before I was even thinking of buying a new PC for gaming. Its a 60hz panel so I am interested in what games you play as I am looking at Battlefield 1 and PUBG at gaming at 1440p and wondering if this low refresh rate restricts frame rate when playing such games?

If the screen's RR is 60hz that's the mot frames it will display.
