Hi

Will be moving from a 4890. Am i going to see a big difference.?

My trusty 4890 is coping with most games atm. So what do you think?

Cheers
Kyo

Ps - i see a this phrase used a lot. What does it a reference card mean? or rather difference between a reference card and unreferenced? when people talk in trade?

got the reference thing clarified :)

Also forgot to mentioned, what do most use software wise to get better/custom fan speed regulation for temps for nvidia cards?

Someone mention Sapphire Trixx ?

Depends on what games you plan on playing with the 580, as well as what resolution you plan on running.
Games such as ArmA 2, Company of Heroes, Crysis 1/2 etc you'll definitely see improvements. You'll also be getting Physx acceleration unlike the ATI card.

MSI afterburner is the software to use like Krony says, and i think you will see a massive improvement over the 4890, the 4890 was a great card, but there are faster options available now

what res monitor are you using? dependent on the res you might be better off with a gtx570 or 2gb 6950.

it's old tech you can get gtx480 sli(2 x gtx480) for £300(they're refurb with 1yr warranty, only get the card no cables etc).

I use 1920 x 1080 so hopefully i should see the difference. :) Like you say my trusty 4890 was a splendid card. Took advice from Sycho and got one.

Thanks for the clarification on MSI afterburner.

cheers

I'm no expert but from what I've read gtx580 will be over kill in your situation unless you're one of those that must have everything on super duper ultra high etc, would be better off saving money and going 6950 2gb or gtx480(refurb for £150, performance similar to the gtx570).

sycho over here :)

WOW - really surprised by my temps? Is the readings right

Yeah good stuff, my GTX580 idles around 45C and 70C load in a 20C room and the GTX580 i use has twin cooling fans.

Idle desktop temps

Load temps - start up ArmA 2 operation arrowhead - 3 minutes in the editor

33c is a great idle temp for a stock air cooled card, do some gaming and see how high it hits under load.

Decent temp, try Crysis or something like Shogun 2, should get it nice and toasty :P
Personally for air cooling i like to keep em below 80c under load which looks like u will easily have.
