Hi all,

I've just put in a request to go to 8mb, and am wondering if you can tell me whether my line stats are good or not? The broadband estimate thing on my isp says 8mb, I realise it may be less - but what do you reckon to these?

Item Downstream Upstream Unit
SNR Margin 31 28 dB
Line Attenuation 15 9 dB
Data Rate 2272 288 kbps

Cheers all :)

15dB down attenuation should get you very, very nice speeds. SNR seems a little high though, but you could always lower it with the DMT tool.

DMT tool? Hopefully I should get a decent speed then? I realise that the wire doesn't run in straight lines, but the exchange is next to no distance from my house, so here's hoping!

I think you'll actually find that it hasn't been upgraded yet - it's still connected to home2000. The SNR will drop as close to 6dB as it can get when it's upgraded.

I'd reckon the full 8Mb shouldn't be a problem when it goes through.

Thanks for your replies guys :) Much appreciated and I shall wait and see what it brings when they finally switch me over :)

Why would you want to lower the SNR on a fixed connection lol :p That line should get the full 8mb no problem with some noise margin to spare :D

The higher the SNR the better!

Those line stats are excellent and I am almost certain you will get the full 8MB without any problems. I am connected at the full 8MB with 30db attenuation.

In that case, WOO :) Cheers mate :) The internet is a bit unstable at the minute but I guess thats to be expected :) Cheers for your replies throughout my thread :)
