Upgrading to AM5, anything I should change?

Hello, I currently have 5800x and I recently purchased a 5070 ti and as some of you know from my older threads I have a horrible bottleneck. I did consider a 5700X3D but I think going AM5 is just the better option here. The parts I was considering are these.

9800X3D
MSI MAG B850
G.SKILL Triden 2x16gb

I don't plan on upgrading my GPU for a very long time, will these parts above give me the best performance possible? I have a 165hz gsync monitor and if possible I want to get as close to my 157 fps cap as close as possible. Battlefield 6 I can barely get over 100 fps on smaller maps, will the AM5 eliminate this problem and boost my performance?

Also I have a question, I'm kind of nervous because I won't have access to a laptop or PC during the upgrade if I was to buy the parts. My question is, since I only have 1 USB stick can I put just the BIOS on it and put my current SSD into my new build and load windows up to do a fresh install that way? Or do I need to clean my drive for the new build beforehand?

Hard to say without knowing how much the parts are setting you back.

That said, BF6 is fond of X3D cache so you should see a hefty improvement from the upgrade.

You should be able to switch your drive other without a full install, modern Windows handles that sort of thing pretty well. I'd advise uninstalling your old chipset drivers etc, and make sure you disable anything like bitlocker etc.

Sound system & speakers?

Copy ethernet drivers to USB stick in case they're not included with windows, otherwise won't be able to download drivers (unless you have access to laptop or phone then copy drivers onto usb stick)

Do fresh install

So all I would need to do is put the motherboard bios on a usb and press the button to install bios? Once that is done windows will load up normally without any problems? Sounds too good to be true lol. If that works then I will do fresh install of windows that way.

Sorry I'm confused, sound system and speakers? Why do I need to copy Ethernet drivers? Can I just do the bios usb thingy on the new build and plug and play my old SSD to load windows, then do a fresh install of windows this way instead?

If you're doing a fresh install, first boot and network card and wifi isn't supported, then it's not going to be able to connect to your router and therefore download the drivers you need.

Like being able to drive to your local garage to buy wheels...when your car has no wheels.

Why do you need to put a bios on a USB stick? The B850 will support the 9800X3D out of the box, if you want to update the motherboard bios anyway that's fine and might be beneficial, but it isn't a hard requirement.

oh, so i don't need a usb stick at all? the cpu and motherboard will just loadup? i remember my current pc i had to use usb stick to put bios for the cpu to work

Correct.

The B850 is a current generation chipset and the 9800X3D is a current generation CPU, if you want to upgrade to something like a 10800X3D in the future you would need to update your bios.

When I googled the msi b850 and 9800x3d it said I had to put bios on usb to make it work, it's ai response i guess it's wrong?

Google's AI is beyond horrendous.

You can update to the latest bios like that but it isn't necessary, I'd still do a bios update but it'd be the last thing on my list during the setup process.

Ok so this would be my plan. Buy AM5 parts. Install AM5 and install my old SSD. Everything should load without problems? I'll then do fresh install of windows. Once that is done, chipset, gpu and bios update. Am I missing anything?

You might not even need to reinstall Windows, I can't 100% say you wont have any problems but at worst you'd just wipe the drive and reinstall anyway.

I've not bothered with a fresh Windows install in the last 3 rigs I've done platform updates for this year and ran into no problems.

Yeah I think a fresh install I would do because it's due. i just wanted to upgrade to am5 first and just manage my current windows files and stuff slowly then reinstall windows. if that makes sense. upgrading to am5 scares me, i just have anxiety and think of the worst. putting it all together and not encountering a problem seems too good to be true so i'm trying to eliminate and prepare myself for any problems that arise.

To be clear, are you suggesting creating backups only after the upgrade? If so, no, don't do that :o The chances of getting stuck in a BSOD/boot loop is very rare with modern Windows, but you can never say never.

No no. For example, I'll use my ssd and windows and a week later search for cheap portal drive to transfer important stuff to it etc, if that makes sense. maybe im doing things wrong, i'm rushing to upgrade to AM5 as soon as I get the money.

Your best bet is to come back once you have the money, don't get stuck on specific component combinations. Prices for hardware fluctuate heavily within short periods of time, even if what you're looking at in the OP is the best price/quality as of right now they might be poor choices in a week or two.

If you're wanting to back up data, how much are we talking about exactly? Is cloud storage viable or do you need more room?

It feels like you're overthinking things a fair bit tbh.

As per your other thread, it's not a bottleneck, upgrading your machine to AM5 will not fix your problem.

You either have a GPU issue, or a software/driver conflict.

But......If you have the cash burning a hole in your pocket, then by all means :)

Explain what I'm suppose to do? I know what a cpu bottleneck feels like because when I run a 3D Benchmark the GPU hits 99% usage. I've updated bios, updated chipset, DDU uninstall. And yet when I open up a game such as battlefield my GPU usage doesn't go above 60% usage and my CPU is hitting 85-100% usage unless I use a user.cfg setting to reduce the cpu usage. Even with that file my FPS is complete ass, which I assume is because of the CPU being to slow? It's very frustrating for me, I've done so much research to try and figure out if my PC is broken rather than having to upgrade. So if I upgrade to AM5 I'm still going to encounter the same problem is what you are saying?

battlefield 6 - constantly hits 85-100% usage and my fps constantly drops below 100 on smaller maps. https://ibb.co/BvVLKxP

I'm pretty sure a 5800X shouldn't be getting bottle necked by a 5070TI. I owned a Pulse and a 5600X and it worked great. No stuttering or symptoms of bottlenecking. I since then though upgraded it to the 5800X3D in that PC so even better. I am though playing at 5120x1440p which is close to 4K so I suppose most of the lifting is on the GPU. What Resolution are you playing at? Maybes try fresh install on your existing AM4 platform first. Although going AM5 won't hurt if you can afford it.
