Hello,
I've decided to upgrade my aging X2 system to C2D to play with over the summer.
My last upgrade was almost 2 years ago and haven't been paying attention to what the best bits are since then.
Done a bit of reading the past week, but would like some advice on the best stuff to use (bang for buck), although mainly ram advice.
my current system:
A64 X2 4400 @ 2.6GHz
DFI Lanparty SLI-DR
2x1GB G-Skill PC4000 HZ
2x7800GT in SLI
X-Fi Music
OCZ Powerstream 520W
Samsung 22" 225BW (1680x1050)
running on XP 32-bit (although I have Vista I can use if needed for 4GB ram)
I'm only planning on upgrading the cpu/mobo/ram/gfx, so the new stuff will need to work with my current psu (has 1 6-pin pci-e plug).
Would the following be ok?

both the cpu and mobo are in This Week Only, so a bit of a saving there (i was thinking about those two anyway, kinda lucky).
Memory - I'm wanting to hit around 3.6GHz with the cpu, and I'm not too sure about the ram, don't know anything about C2D overclocking with regard to ram dividers etc. Would the Crucial 5300 be ok for that in that mobo? Or maybe even that cheap Geil 6400 as it's about 14 quid cheaper?
I won't need a cpu cooler as I have a water loop already, but may need a s775 block (I have an old s478 block lying around that I may be able to mod to fit 775, need to wait until I get the mobo).
I'll mainly be playing Oblivion, and would like the GTX over the GTS/HD2900XT, unless new XT drivers come out within the next week that bring performance closer to the GTX.
thanks.
