Hi all,

I am currently very tempted to upgrade to a new system although I know I should probably weight for the rumoured price drops of both CPU's and GPU's in the near future.

When I build my new system I am hoping to build a near silent system so was interested in what the noise levels of current 8800 cards are like?
Are silent models expected when the new revisions come out?
Are some of these new models going to be budget cards?

Thanks

The stock cooler on my 8800 GTS is brilliant to be honest, Good at its job and doesnt make that much noise either and thats at 100%. My Hard drive make's more noise ;)

I'm waiting for some decent games. Can't see the point in upgrading now tbh. Maybe be the end of the year when the prices have dropped.

install ati tool, use fan control to turn the fan down, i've never had an issue dropping fan speeds quite a bit compared to stock.

What system do you have right now? I seriously wouldn't do a serious upgrade for at least a few months, probably more like a year. Forget about DX10 for now - what's the point  I'd only bother with a current DX10 card right now if you have a big display and play at very, very high resolutions. I just did an interim upgrade to the rig in my sig and it plays anything at max settings at 1280x1024 res, even with some FSAA thrown in. And it cost next to nothing. I won't be touching Vista/DX10 until this time next year.

Well my current spec is a 2.4Ghz Pentium 4, 1Gb of ram and a Radeon 9800 Pro.

I'm deciding to upgrade as I am interested in getting Windows Vista in the near future and will also want to play games like Quake Wars and Crysis. The spec I am looking at is a 6600 Core 2 Duo, a 8800 Gts and 2Gb of ram.

When I do an upgrade I kind of want it to last though, I'm not enough of an enthusiast to upgrade often.

To be honest my current system has done me great, got given the CPU and motherboard by Intel at GDCE 2004 and haven't needed to upgrade yet, runs Half Life 2 fine :)
