just thought of another question

i also have compiz fusion installed on 7.04 - does but its not active, and probably not installed entirely correctly - does this get reinstalled and set up properly by default?

Yes it does. 7.10 has an appearance settings, kind of like XP had. The last tab, gives a choice of three levels of effects.

You will probably have to install restricted drivers first if you have an ATi or Nvidia card. I have a nv8600 which is now supported fine.

The new options don't let you configure compiz fusion, only choose from three levels.

However if you go synaptic and install compizconfig-settings-manager. This adds a fourth option called "custom" which lets you play around with all sorts of stuff.

I got bored after 2 minutes and reset it to the medium effects.

well, the upgrade seems to have happened without any major problems

but some minor ones :)

1) I have the root version of nautilus on the top launch panel - but when i click it it doesn't open anything - if i run it from a terminal its fine - and PLACES/COMPUTER also works fine - any suggestions.

2) i used to have the Deskbar applet in the launch panel (which also ran Beagle?) - but doesn't Gutsy use something different? If i look in system monitor beagle is still running but so is Tracker (the new deskbar?). Is it ok to uninstall beagle now?

I haven't tried compiz yet - will report on that later

thanks
