Upgrading to Vista Premium (student Version) Can I install X64 version?

I am about to purchase Vista Premium Educational Upgrade version for my partners daughter who has now started secondary school.

I presume the version supplied on the disk is the x32 bit version. To future proof the install I would prefer to install the x64 bit version. Is this possible from the educational version? And if so where do I get the x64 disc from?

Thanks very much for your replies

Thanks for the replies, thats good news about being able to install x64 bit version.

I've never used p2p. Do you have a link where I should look into this?

Cheers

OK - backup people.
To the OP - If you are buying the Educational version of the OS then simply use the link provided.
You have to pay the shipping fee for your 64bit media, however it costs £7.80 and takes about a week to arrive.
I've been through exactly the same procedure for a friend of the family and it is that easy.

To the poster running OEM 32bit - No, if you want to upgrade to 64bit you will need to buy either an OEM 64bit or Retail Upgrade.
You can't just download an image - you bought an OEM 32bit OS and that is all you are licensed to use.
Just because physically the key will work on the 64bit version does not make it a legal option to go and download a copy.

If I don't own a driving license I can still physically drive a car - I just cannot do so legally.

Thanks for the post Stoofa :) I have ordered Vista now and for the sake of a week and £7.90 will order the x64 disc from Microsoft.

Well that's my good deed done. Shame Microsoft took the backward step to stifle the roll out of 64 bit computing by not supplying both versions with each package.

Thanks again

I fully agree with you on this one.
I am a defender of Microsoft, well a defender to a point - I will go on their side when I feel they are in the right or against unfair comments.
However for the sake of a few £ I really think that Home Basic & Home Premium (along with Ultimate) should have shipped with the 64bit media as well - especially as you are licensed to use either 32bit or 64bit when you purchase.

http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=168276. A couple of people here have got the 64bit version from Microsoft, despite having OEM 32 bit, so I'll give it a go. What have I got to lose? They can only refuse to supply when I type in the OEM serial number.
