Currently running i7 4790k @ 4.6ghz but want to move to amd now.

Which mobo should I get so I can utilise the new zen2 chips when they come out later in the year?

Do I get an X370 or X470 board? presume the 470 is the later chipset?

From what i gather either chipset "should" work. Personally if i wanted to upgrade now i would go X470 and high end. The other option is to go real low end to tie yuou over till x570 is released.

People bought RTX cards with no reviews out.....

It's no just about performance.

But compatibility, BIOS updates and other matters to do with motherboards that nobody knows about yet.

We believe Xen2 will work in existing boards but not to what extent or with what hardships (if any)

Just wait for Zen 2, it's a no brainer. It would be different if you're current PC had a component failure and you couldn't use it. But you have a i7 4790k @ 4.6ghz!!!!!! That's a very capable setup.

Stop being silly. Wait. :)

I've already got a CH6 and 2700x. There is no way on this earth i would even think about buying a current mobo for a cpu that hasn't even been released yet. I didn't change mobo last time, i might not need to change mobo this time. But i defo is not going to change mobo before we even see the cpu's.

Also you would need an earlier CPU to flash the compatible bios unless it has one of the special usb flash without bios methods that some motherboard have.

Also if you're going Zen 2 then PCI-E 4 from an x570 board would be useful to wait for especially as when SSDs come out wth NVMe on PCI-E 4 they will be even faster.

As other have said, wait.

However the best X370 and X470 motherboards appear to be the Asus Crosshair boards and Asrock Taichi boards, both seem to be of the better build quality, VRMs etc.

Not sure if Gigaybte are any good, I think for X370 they were pretty garbage, not sure if they got better with X470.

Would steer clear of MSI personally, they are overpriced garbage, and their CEO pretty much said they don't think much of AMD so I wouldn't expece much in the way of quality products from them.

I would buy a super cheap board now to use, get a good one when X570 appears.

Once you've got a Ryzen 3000 use the old board and CPU for a NAS or HTPC or sell them.

X470, yes.
Asus or Asrock because they provide better memory support and with Ryzen, memory clock is vital because the internals of the Ryzen run at the same speed as the memory.
