Hey, I'm running off the PSU that came with my case. (xBlade) lol! Its done the job so far with my 3800+, Crossfire mobo and X850XT PE. Its 420W but I wouldn't say its top of the range.

I'm thinking of upgrading to an X2 4600+ or possibly an FX-62, depending whether I can get it 2nd hand off my mate, and an X1800XT cos those prices seem to bevery decent atm, but I'm a little worried about the PSU I have atm. I don't really want to spend too much on the PSU but I don't want to overlook it for obvious reason, its basically the only cheap part of the PC I have atm (apar from the case).

wanting to upgrade to:

X2 4600+ or FX-62
X1800XT
1 7200RPM IDE HD
1 36GB Raptor (perhaps)
1 DVDRW Drive
2GB RAM.
5 Case fans.

Can anyone name a reasonably priced PSU that will be able to cope with that. Baring in mind I'm not intending to use Crossfire or SLi anytime soon. So basically something that can run the above.

Thanks,
Alex

Any 500W or above PSU from Seasonic, Enermax, Tagan or Hiper should be just the ticket. However it will set you back at least 50 beer vouchers. Be worth it though.

dont get the fx - 62, rip off

Well my mate says he'd consider my offer of £200 for it.

As for the PSU, I saw the eyecatching:

Hiper HPU-4B580 Type R 580W Modular ATX2.2 PSU - Blue (CA-006-HP)
£54.95

looks pretty decent, might help with he clutter inside my case as well.

Are these 4400s clockable to 2.4Ghz? Cos thats what I'm running now with my 3800+ single core.

Hiper PSUs...not for me!

I think that if you did a brief search of these threads you'd find a number of posts conerning their build quality, stability. If you check out the reviews you'll find divided opinion on them. I bought one and has to return it because it rattled and squeaked when turned on.

On my reading of the pros and antis on the merits or otherwise of the Hiper PSU range, it's cosmetics rather than quality that drive its sales. I'm happy to be rid of Hiper PSU that I had for a couple of days. In my experience, cheap and shiny is seldom a wise choice in buying computer gear.
