I'm looking to upgrade my PC, I've pointed out what I want, I just want to know if there is better for this specific setup:

CPU: INTEL CORE 2 QUAD Q9550
MB: XFX nForce 750i Motherboard
RAM: Corsair DDR2 XMS2-8500 4GB
GFX: XFX GeForce GTX 280 – 1GB
CASE: Antec Twelve Hundred
PSU: Antec TruePower Quattro 850W PSU

Comes to around £900 exVAT.

I have around £1.2 to spend within exVAT prices.

I was thinking of getting the Quad Q9650 but the price jumps up £100.

I'll be putting on Vista Ultimate 64bit and so I may also upgrade to 8GB RAM which will be enough for me. I think it should all work together, not entirely sure. I may be interested in a rapter drive if there is any good ones, but i do currently have 3 SATA's, (I also got all rest componants).

This setup good to go or is there better within it's range?

set uo look real good but I would go for Intel chipset rather than Nvidia. P45 should perfomance better (P5Q Deluxe, Biostar TPower I45)

Definitely get an Intel chipset motherboard. With your budget you can probably afford an X38/X48 board.

The 9550 will be more than sufficient, especially if it's E0 stepping.

Like the above posters mentioned I would look for a P45 or X range board.
Unless your thinking of going SLI in the future then you will need to stick with Nvidia board.

I might SLI, that is one of the reasons why I choose the board. But this machine won't be used for hardcore gaming at all, and that is the only reason I think I would need the SLI.

I will have a look at them boards! thank you

Agreed with above posters, unless you know for sure you are going to go SLI (which is not worth the money imo) then i would definitel go an Intel board. Not really worth going X48 (unless you'd Xfire - again same argument) and hence I'd recommend the P45 chipset, notably the Asus P5Q series. Good performing boards with excellent overclocking abilities.

Edit: With a budget of 1.2k you considered i7?
