upgrading x1950xtx

hi all,

ive decided to upgrade my x1950xtx 512mb, not seeing any real problems with my card plays most things well still, im only on a 19" monitor. But i want to change befor my x1950xtx becomes worthless.

iv had a look around on google but cant seem to find many good reviews compareing my card with newer ones. after a search on here ive seen a few people say it is worth it as an upgrade.

but my question is would i see a worth wile change going to a 8800gts 640, or a 3850 pro, or should i aim higher say a 8/9800gt or ati equivalent?

may one day upgrade monitor, so dont think about it in relation to what res i currently game at.

should have said im on xp now, but i intend to get vista at some point, i will also be doing a dual boot with windows 7 beta when my new hdd arrives but as this is a beta im not expecting to be able to game on it all the time.

so basicly saying having the dx10 will be a bonus as well

Think of the 3850 pro as a DX10 version of the x1950xtx. The 8800gts 640mb would only be a little quicker and the 9800gt takes a hammering from what ATI have in that price range.

A budget here is the most important thing, along with how firm it is.

price £80-£100 (dont want to go over £100) really dont mind going second hand if it will get me something a little better.

Go for a 4850

Best on price and bang for buck - esp if you get 2nd hand

and yes you will notice a difference.

If you can stretch your budget then aim for the 4850, otherwise I think 9800gt or 4830 would be good for the moeny.

ok thanks for all the replys intrested in what jigger linked to, might sit back a week or 2 and keep an eye on current prices.

morning all,

erm, the 4850 new is a tiny bit over what i want to spend, so i will try and either find a 2nd hand one or see what happens with these price drops.

seems to be the general opinion that the 4850 is a good buy for me.
