My PC performance at the moment is pretty good, however, I want it to be better. I can run a heavily modded Skyrim at an average of 40-50 fps, but I can't play with my ENB turned on. As soon as I turn it on it drops to 10-20 fps, which is unplayable really. Also, I play at a 2560x1440 resolution. This is what I have at the moment;

Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H
Processor: AMD Phenom II x6 3.2GHz
Graphics Card: Nvidia GTX 570 SOC
RAM: G.Skill RipJawsX 4GB DDR3 1600MHz (x4)
PSU: XFX Pro 850W
Main Solid State Drive: Corsair Force GT 120GB
Hard Drive #2: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200RPM
Hard Drive #3: Western Digital 2TB
Hard Drive #4: Western Digital 500GB
Case: Cooler Master CM-690 II Nvidia Edition Advanced Dominator
Mouse: CM Storm Sentinel Advance
Keyboard: Mionix Zibal 60
Monitor: Hazro HZ27WC 27”
Speakers: Logitech Z323

I have been wanting to switch my motherboard and processor for a while now, so I was thinking of getting the ASRock Z77 Extreme4 M and the i5-2550k 3.40GHz and overclocking it, though I've never overclocked before :P

I've also thought about getting SLI for a while, and that was one reason for picking that motherboard. It's just a shame that Overclockers don't sell the model of graphics card I have at the moment, as I would prefer the have the exact same one. But I wouldn't be getting another graphics card for a while anyway, so we'll see.

I think just upgrading the motherboard and processor would give a good performance boost but as I'm not 100% sure on how much I thought I would come to you guys for some advice. What do you all think? Could I get better performance for less money with something else?

The above is perfect.

The motherboard is better than the Asrock rubbish (better warranty, better build quality, full size ATX so the cards aren't sitting on top of each other)

The 2550K doesnt have an IGP, so you dont get Lucid/Quicksync, the 3570K is the one to get.

I just realised I forgot to include my CPU Cooler, which is a Corsair Hydro H50-1. Would I need to upgrade this, as Phusion has added or would it be alright?

Also, I don't actually know what an IGP or Lucid/Quicksync is XD

IGP = Integrated graphics processor.

The CPU has a GFX core, Lucid is a program which can switch between this and the GFX card as needed (i.e not gaming) and Quicksync is a feature which allows some programs to use the IGP to speed up encoding/rendering times of videos etc.

Does your H50 include a socket 1156 bracket? this is the same as 1155 so fits both.

I'm pretty sure it does, yeah, but I'll double check in a bit. And thank you for explaining what an IGP is :P

I just had a look and it only comes with Socket AM2+/AM3, LGA775 and LGA1366 brackets. In that case, can you buy brackets seperately?

Ok, the one I bought does actually come with the correct bracket, but of course, I don't have the box anymore -_-
