Upload saturates download - a calculation?

Is there a calculation that explains what the best upload speed to set your torrents to?

Obviously on my 2mb ADSL keeping it at 30kbps is bad news for download speeds, I set it to 20kbps so my download speed isn't effected.
But is there a proper calculation (rather than a rough guess) to work out this 'balance'? So that it could be applied to other connections etc.

Just wondered

I am pretty sure there is some sort of calculation for this. Would like to know if their definately is.

Any ideas chaps? ;)

there is a fantastic little program out there called CFosSpeed which basically allows full (or close to) download speed whilst maintaining full upload speed. When i had my 22meg ukonline, i was uploading torrents at 70kB and still managing to download at 1.4megabytes whilst comfortably browsing the internet as well! I was sceptical at first, but it really worked well for me :)

QOS and a few other freely available network tools/tweaks/reporting bundled together for not a lot of money... doesn't look bad on paper

*makes note to download and abuse it later*

80% of your max upload

Amen to that,

say you were on a Fixed 2Mb IPStream service (2278/288), I would set it to 22-24KB/s. Dont forget to watch your maximum connections etc also as this can play havoc with your routers NAT tables ie making it slower.

I can download torrents at 800kB/s if I set my upload speed to 6KB/s. Anything lower and uTorrent caps download and anything higher the download speed just decreases.

If it is a poorly seeded one, I put the upload up to 20kB/s and that helps.

I don't believe that anything higher than 6kbps will make it slower?!
