Hi.

I'm trying to upload gameplay vids to youtube, a couple of UT3, and well, the video quality sucks I've tried everything, so far I have got the best quality by selecting 480x360 res as that seems to be what youtube actually uses. I also found adding more brightness and contrast can increase the quality too, but the problem is, when I add brightness and contrast then render it, its all laggy for some reason :confused:

I'm using Sony Vegas 8.0.

As you can see Video 2 stutters but I did manage to get it to look better such as less pixelation due to the brightness and contrast.

Any ideas whats going wrong and how to increase video quality more?

Yeah but don't you need to recode it before you upload it to fraps?

I'm currently trying to recode some fraps videos using virtual dub, but haven't tried to upload them to youtube yet.

How about uploading to www.stage6.com I think they allow higher res videos?

Save you footage out of vegas in .avi uncompressed format

open vdub and encore it to divx

make sure you saving with the media res, 320x240

your quality should be much better :)

So in Vegas, I selected Video for windows (Avi) in the Render as tab?

I tried using Vdub but I dont get how to encode it as DivX in there and then select everything, was so complicated tried looking for a tutorial on it.
 
How do you re-encode at 320x240 in vdub out of interest?

When I re-encode in vdub I go... Video, compression, Xvid (duh duh duh), ...but it never asks me for what resolution to re-encode it at...

do I need to install another codec or sommat?

How big are the two UT movie files? As the quality looks pretty poor.

I had a good, but time consuming encoding method I found on a retro forum.

Only problem is my most recent upload keeps getting rejected. So Youtube might have changed support, or my editting is causing a proble, but have tried multiple times.
 
Try the following, just to see if it produces any better final video while keeping file size down.

Get VirtualDub v1.7.7 and x264 VfW and install the two.

Use VirtualDub to edit/chop your raw Fraps footage. Once happy with with it select Video menu and pick Compression. Scroll down list and select x264vfw.

From the file menu select "Save as AVI". A quick test with a 320x240 Fraps recording reduced file from 125MB to 12.6MB. No idea how it would look after Youtube mess with it though.
