I've never uploaded a video to youtube, so I thought it was about time and decided to just upload a test video first. The first thing that struck me was how slow it seemed to be, despite only being a very short video. I'm only using a free version of fraps atm btw. Can someone point me in the right direction? Do I need something else to convert the video so it can be uploaded much faster?

Thanks.

How big is your file?

I'd run it through something like handbrake first to reduce the filesize.

Remember in the UK, most of us have terrible upload speeds.

It's 2.15gb.

Earlier when I started uploading it, something like twenty of thirty minutes had gone by and it was only around 4 - 5% completed.

Assuming you get a typical upload speed of 1Mb/s, it's going to take about five hours to transfer that file. As above - you should really re-encode the video to something more suitable before uploading!

Install the free software hankbrake and re-encode it to a lower bitrate, should quarter your file size.

What would you say is the best recording software to buy (unless there's software that is free of course). Fraps?

I have the free software MSI Afterburner, so would that be of any use?

For some reason, any video I upload is only as high as 480p (using afterburner), yet when I first uploaded a video (using a free version of fraps), there was the option to view at 1200p. Do I need to purchase a higher grade version of afterburner to upload in 1080 / 1200p?
