uPnP Media Server, best software?

I want to stream music from my computer onto my phone/tablet/other computers. I can't seem to find a decent media server though, they are either too bulky, the userface is pants or some other issue. All I want is a small server on my PC! How hard can that be?

Any advice please.

Have a look at Twonky or PS3 Server, as they both offer transcoding if you require that. What about Windows Media which is build into Win7 or Home Server 2011?

Twonky was too cumbersome, and WMP doesn't seem to work. I can't figure out how to tell it what music to share. I shall try PS3 server.

I used mediatomb on my Linux file server. Works well but is a bit of flaky web interface to configure
