is there any difference. in performance over the two methods

when im downloading using utorrent. i have it set to randomize port and upnp. is it best to keep a static port and forward it via the router fixed ?

is the throughput of the two any different

In terms of throughput, an open port is an open port. How it is opened is irrelevent.

The main debate between UPnP and port forwarding is about security. With UPnP enabled, any program on your PC can open ports, either intentionaly or by mallicious software.

Port forwarding gives some control over what ports are forwarded, but does mean you have to manualy set which port, or range of ports, are to be forwarded before hand and means that those ports are only forwarded to a specific internal IP, so if that IP changes you have to change the forwarded ports too.

In the end in comes down to control vs ease of use. If you want more control over your network, use port forwarding. If you prefer ease of use then use UPnP.

In my opinion, if you have a trojan or virus on your computer, having UPnP enabled is the least of your worries.
