Being christmas and all. The spending spirit and all.

I've noticed my 7950GX2 cant quite cut it occasionally when I play COD4 when things get busy up close, costing me frags!!

Crysis, I can run on medium but high, where its suppose to be where its spose to be in all its glorym forget about it..

My spec is in my sig..

I just wanted to ask the question what would be a good uprgrade, money wise, well the best (investment)value upgrade put it that way..I can be tempted to pay a lot but only if its gonna last..

My OC rig I bought last year came with this card, I was pretty gutted to realise it was out of date in a few months when the 8800s were released..

Is there going to be any new cards next year?

Well I certainly wouldn't upgrade from what you've got now - even the top latest cards struggle on Crysis - wait a couple of months as some new releases are imminent.

An 8800GT would be an upgrade, I play through most of it on high at 1680x1050.
I agree. I upgraded from the GX2 to an 8800GTX as it was the only card available that really beat it.

The 8800GT is very close in performance to the GTX plus it uses less power and is cheaper. Bit of a no brainer really!

Get the GX2 sold on the bay and you'll probably see a decent return too! ;)

Are you overclocking the GX2? if not grab ATITool and see how far you can push it - most will do 580-600MHz no hassle which is a nice boost on its own and some will go to 640-650 which is a nice 30% boost.

I'm running mine at 650MHz and the performance difference between it and the 8800GT really isn't enough to warrant spending best part of £200 on imo... the 8800Ultra (or a well clocked GTX) if you can find one for around £200 is the only worthwhile upgrade imo and even thats only moderatly faster - theres no way I would have spent £400 as it was awhile back for the performance difference.

I'm waiting til Feb myself in the hope that either the 9800GTX or at the least the new GX2 part will come out.

End of the day tho performance in crysis isn't going to be hot... in medium detail I get perfectly playable framerates (about the same as bioshock) but it doesn't look all that special - not even as good as farcry imo which runs MUCH faster... in ultra high detail (using config "hacks") it looks really nice but only runs an average of 25fps... but people with well clocked 8800Ultras only get around 35fps average with the same settings.
