Howdy folks,

Just a quicky, looking to get a fairly simple UPS for the home. Mainly to condition the power before it comes to the PC and monitors etc as the electric supply is a bit crappy at times.

Im thinking a smallish online system that maybes gives a few minutes of battery life to shut down in the case of a blackout too.

Dont want to spend mega money though so what would people recommend ?

Thanks

Rik

I have been using The APC Back-UPS for years. Currently have 3 systems each with its own UPS. I would not even consider using a desktop PC without a UPS.

They give up to 15 minutes backup and can be set to hibernate automatically when battery has only 5 minutes of power left. When power comes back then you can resume from exactly where you left.

Keep an eye on your power requirements. If your PSU is 550w or less then go for then go for the 800VA. If you have power hungry graphics cards requiring a PSU rated at 600w or above then you will need to go for the 1500kVA model.

[Edit] If you are going to plug in your monitors then you need to add you monitors power requirements to you PSU. It is also a good idea to plug your modem/router and any external hard drives into the UPS.
