In a nutshell I bought a tablet and decided it wasn't my cup of tea and returned it via UPS and dropped it at an access point.

It miraculously gets lost between the access point and collection and is nowhere to be found.

I have spent literally the whole day on the phone to UPS and the company that I was returning it for a refund.

I've returned the item in good faith thinking it was going to be safely returned to the company in question. However this is not the case.

What are my options? I paid via PayPal and the remainder via Credit card. Should UPS and or the company say that they're not responsible for this mess can I get my money back by filing a dispute with Paypal and speaking to my Credit card company?

Any advice would be welcome....

a stressed stoosh.... :(

Did you get a receipt from the drop off point?

If UPS lost it then surely their insurance should be covering it?

No receipt Mate unfortunately as this access point doesn't issue them. However tracking shows that I dropped it off to the access point and the chap at the store says that he has CCTV so if push comes to shove I can obtain a copy of the CCTV to prove that I handed the package over.

You would think that their insurance would cover it but it looks like it's going to be a protracted investigation with UPS dragging their heels and in the meantime I'm a few hundred down quid down. I'm not impressed...

Who paid for the return shipping? If you paid for the return shipping your contract between the seller and yourself has currently been delivered as agreed. You will need to chase UPS to get this resolved including getting hold of the CCTV footage, now (don't leave it). If the company paid for return shipping, obtain said footage and send it to their customer support department.

^The company paid for the postage so I will pop down to the shop and ask that they can burn the footage for me. It's such a pain the backside as I handed the parcel over expecting UPS to keep their end of the bargain. This situation is so ridiculous.

That's lucky, shipping companies are a huge pain to deal with, as a company purchase I ordered a server which the shipping company claimed was never handed over. The company who we bought from made us buy another one and several months the later finally refunded us. Absolute mayhem and terrible CS.

Regardless, get the footage, buy the shopkeeper a crate and send it off, hopefully they'll see your side and issue a refund quickly.

Damn that story just straight up sucks especially since you didn't do anything wrong and you had to buy a server again. How can the Courier lose an item as big as that? I can imagine the mayhem and the terrible CS you had to endure. You didn't need the grief as you are the victim and out of pocket for months until they decided to give you a refund.

Luckily I always have a chat with the shopkeeper and have built up a rapport so a crate might not be necessary!

Let the grief begin! Urgh....:(

Haha it was awful. The delivery company claimed that they never took delivery of it and left the onus on the supplier to prove that they had.

Hopefully your issue should be resolved as you're dealing directly with the company not the courier. Hopefully they'll want to ensure you're out of the loop with all the proof they need to fight against the courier.

Unbelievable! These delivery companies are modern day pirates.

It gets worse the supplier got the story totally wrong and are thinking that when it left their warehouse I never received the item! The muppets!!! So I had to send a curt reply back setting them straight.

Does this not point to the drop off point having an issue here?
What if the driver turned up and there was nothing to collect?

The thought had crossed my mind......still I am no closer in finding out where the parcel is or getting monies that are owed to me anytime soon.

Is that normal with UPS access points ? I wouldn't leave a parcel without getting a receipt! Amazon returns and Collect + always give them.

Not at my local one they always give a receipt, I can't believe they're allowed by UPS to take items but not issue some form of proof.

So, what? The tracking shows the parcel being accepted into the drop-point?

If so, kick off at UPS, there's nothing else you need to do after that point.

Getting CCTV is precautionary but ultimately it should never get to a position where you need to provide that.

My local one never offers a receipt but I always ask and I always get one. No way I'd leave something valuable without getting one. They should offer it everywhere IMO.

Just had an update - the driver admitted taking the parcel but neglected to scan it. They now don't know where the parcel is and think it's somewhere around the depot.

Pretty negligent on the driver's behalf. Still at least they admit that they took possession of the parcel which means they are liable for if it has been lost.

They're continuing to look for it and if they can't find it then it's onto the next stage.

As for getting a receipt from this particular access point I've asked before and they don't give them out. I've sent valuable goods from that particular access point before and had no issues. It just had to happen this time.

I wouldn't leave a parcel without a receipt. I'd even go as far as to say that's not standard practice. How can you prove you dropped it off otherwise?
