UPS pick up point - anyone else used before?

Went to one earlier to drop of a parcel, it was just some local newsagents - handed over parcel and the guy picks out some UPS pad and fills out some paper receipt marked with a UPS logo writes down store number, date and my tracking number and hands it to me... thought fair enough, it's just some small shop, maybe you don't get a scanner etc.. with these things.

Thing is I'd expect the tracking to be updated soon - dropped it off this afternoon? Or does UPS not always pick up on Saturdays?

Obviously with the paper receipt/no scan I don't get the initial tracking showing that it's been dropped at the store which is a little bit annoying... I mean I can go back there if it were to go missing, it's very local but meh... just annoying I guess - used to tracking appearing instantly etc..

Does anyone know if UPS tends to pick up from these small drop off locations regularly at weekends etc..?

You should get an text from ups immediately saying 'at access point' or something.

It won't be picked up until Monday

Edit.
No scanner.
When my local had that, they wouldn't take the parcel

I’d assumed there would be a scanner but there were UPS signs near the door, it was the address from the UPS website and the guy at the counter had a pad of UPS customer receipts to write on so... meh. Hopefully doesn’t go wrong, just slightly annoying that it hasn’t been picked up yet.

Also, how does a multinational company like that not have 24/7 support/chat... they’ve just got some dumb chat bot on their site and a phone number to call on week days and Saturday mornings basically.

I’d just wanted to ask when they make collections - I guess judging by that, not on weekends!

Used different points in the past and most are basically local newsagents. One literally just told me to put a package in the corner with all the other ones without even scanning it at the time but arrived the next day without issues.

Other times I've had written receipts or text message confirmations, whole thing seems a little dicey but so far never had a problem. Only use them for heavy items and prefer Royal Mail for everything else.

Our local ups point is the same, just give you a paper slip.
Never had issues
Your lucky you get one, my local one doesn’t give anything to me.
Last month I had to send something back to Microsoft for an exchange and they asked I drop it off at the ups collection point.
I went the next day and did so but didn’t get anything to prove I had dropped it off.

All I had was an email from Microsoft, anyhow went away for a week. Didn’t see anything updated but when I got back, my replacement item was already back with me.

Ah, cool, thanks for the replies guys. It was just the lack of scanning that bothered me, I guess I have a "receipt" of sorts but it's literally just someone filling out a standard bit of paper, no special stamp or signature etc.. I guess the tracking will probably update at some point on Monday.

I had the same thing sending back a faulty Xbox controllerto Microsoft, two times actually... second time I went to a different shop but still the same... just a hand written receipt, was fine each time tho

Had a similar thing happen to me once, only I didn't even get a hand written receipt. When I asked if this was normal the guy just pointed to a pile of boxes and said none of them got a receipt.
Thought it was weird, but as it was a Friday evening and the last day I could send back the item I just went with it. I remember getting an email within the next few days saying it had been picked up.
The shop was one of those travel agents money sending places you would never normally go in.

The shops that didn't give a paper receipt are just damn lazy. I take it the parcel still has all the required details already applied before dropping off?

I've used CollectPlus before but it's done on the PayPoint machine and tracking/emails are started immediately after it's scanned into the shop.

I figured it was laziness because the scanner had stopped working. The package had the return label that came with it on. And I took a few photos of the box in the pile with the others.

Yup, parcel has a pre-printed label attached, I just assumed it would be scanned when handing it over and it wasn't.... so then I'd assumed, well, global logicstics firm, pick up location in central-ish London on a Satruday, it should be picked up within a few hours... apparently not. Presumably it will get picked up on Monday...

They kind of deserve to be beaten/lose out to things like Amazon's in house delivery dervice etc.. as this whole process seems a bit backwards - lack of Saturday pick up, no scan etc.. pretty poor given it is 2020, I don't think it is ureasonable to expect companies to operate 7 days a week these days.

Best one I have used recently is InPost. You can rock up anytime, the locker is outside somewhere. Just scan the label and a door opens to put the parcel in.

That sounds pretty cool - this was for a repair and I was sent the box/label etc.. didn't have a choice (well save for perhaps paying extra to arrange a courier collection but meh... fancied a walk and have KN95 mask to stick on before going inside the shop).

Used to have 2 InPost lockers in my town at one point but both have now been removed. Used to use them to collect parcels if they were being delivered by DHL as they were a delivery partner with them.

Shame they removed them. I think they are great, didn't know you could get Delivered to them too!

Ah... good news - tracking updated to shipped and now it's at Stansted airport.... thanks again for the reassuring responses! :)

I was half expecting replies along the lines of:

"LOL dowie, you muppet, didn't get it scanned"

"hahaha this is like those ebay threads"

"hey dowie, wanna buy my 2080ti on ebay for £200, it's working, honest..."

I dunno, something about leaving a 2 grand laptop in a pile in a dodgy newsagent and with only a paper receipt literally anyone could have filled out themselves seemed a bit dodgy... but meh, it's in the system now and on its way.
