Are there any UPS units out there whose off grid run time can be extended by plugging in external batteries (Say, for example, a pair of 12V 100AH leisure batteries ;) )

I reckon you could cobble up connecting additional batteries to just about any UPS, within reason. Obviously would be unsupported and potentially impact any warranty.

I would certainly be capable of cobbling something together. (and that may well be my ultimate option) But I am wondering whether there are any commercially available UPS units that come with this, really rather obvious, option.

In a similar vein, I would have thought that a PC PSU that could work directly of a 12/24VDC supply would be of interest to many people and yet I don't think I have ever seen one available (Switched mode electronics should have no problem achieving this, after all this is how laptops work)

Ho Humm.
