Right,

I'm now really getting fed up of losing work every time my eldest decides to put his hand in the toaster. I need a UPS.

Can anyone recommend a nice quiet UPS of at least 1000VA that copes well with the power fluctuations you get in the home, I used to have one that would trip every half hour at home - useless PoS.

I hear that the Belkin Universal units whistle loud enough to be used as youth repellents while I notice that the APC Back-UPS units have fans.

Does anyone have any good experiences with a quiet 1000-1500VA UPS (under £200) for home use?

Ta.

It's a euphemism, he doesn't literally mean he has problems just when his eldest messes with the toaster...

*on topic* I'd like to know what UPS type/brand people recommend too. The wiring in my rented flat is not the best.

APC are generally considered to be the best. You can get them cheap from auction sites. If you get a Belkin let me know if it is any good 'cos for the price they look good.

I'm using a belkin one 350W

Currently only using 40% of its power under load.

Had 2 powercuts so far. Worked perfectly for 3 mins then shut the PC down automaticly.

(bought it cheap on an auction site (£10)

Really? As far as I was aware APC dont power condition the input.

belkins are good imo, got a 1000va unit here and it keeps my x2 main rig and my p4 server online 24/7.

Protects the lan from downstairs router/dsl modem, according to the software it has stopped a few surges and has had no trouble with powercuts, intentional or real.
Its also small and doesnt had a fan.

Actually... he did have his hand in it - trying to pick out the remains of a bagel, bechya didn't know basic common sense could skip a generation. To quote a certain professor ... "My poor insane son".

Anyhow, I'm going to pop out and grab a Belkin unit and see how it goes.
