Upsampling DVDs using a PC?

OK, got the 5.1 working by using the FFDShow Audio Decoder instead of Cyberlink or Sonic one.

Sweet :D

EDIT - Upsampling to "1200p" on my 1600 x 1200 22" CRT.

OK, so I figured TTIUWP, so here's one from Matrix Revolutions:

(I've had to downsample the upsampled image to display it here LOL)

Original:

Upsampling and unsharpening:

On the system in sig, I get ~50% CPU usage.

Nicely done mate. Fancy writing a mini tutorial for those less knowledgable?

/read, me. ;)

EDIT - Just use MediaPlayerClassic and the external filter FFDShow.

(If you want to use Zoom Player:

It's all in the first link dude.

You need to buy a couple of things, but they are like $15 each or something.

You may also need these otherwise you get connection errors in Zoom Player:

(Right click, save as).

Run the .reg file and copy the cinemaster file into the Zoom Player/DS Filters directory.)

Media player classic is free and will do the same job as zoom player.

Correct, except you can't give the video to FFDShow to do the processing.

You can with DIVX etc, but not DVD for some reason. Try it.

EDIT - Works now. Didn't for me before.

i use MPC with ffdshow :confused:

Yeh, I just tried it and it's working now :confused:

I managed to pass it to FFDShow with DIVX and so on, but whenever I gave it a DVD to process, it screwed up.

Weird. Maybe I'm using a different FFDSHow now.

Good work!

:D

EDIT AGAIN - Hmm, I can't get it to look as good in MPC. I'm using the Overlay Mixer in both, but in MPC, the display is less contrasty and there's a nasty dark grey overlay between the actual movie and the borders.

If I try to use mpc and ffdshow for dvd's - the screen goes all messed up. :confused:

That's why I thought it didn't work. It's working on my system now.

I'm not on my home PC right now, so I can't check which FFDShow I'm using, but I know that I've set it to allow processing of Raw video (at the top - Codecs, then scroll to the bottom of this option).

I also have a registry edit (posted up a few posts), but that may be unrelated.

Hmm, I didn't like the results with that ( I used Version B).

My settings are:

Blur+NR = Denoise3D - luma 1.0, HQ

Sharpen = Unsharp, 20

Resize = 1500 x 1200, Luma 1.0

(In that order in FFSHow seems to give the best image / CPU tradeoff).

Try them, substituting your own resize in.
