hey just wondering if such software exists...

I've been ripping all my dvd's to my hard drive for my media server as i stream all my films from my pc via the ps3 to my tv.

and well on some of my older dvd's they don't look so good on a 40" screen... i can put the dvd into the ps3 and it upscales it a bit and looks a bit cleaner but that defeats the object of having a media server then xP

so just wondering is there is any software that would take my video file, process it and run some alogorthm or something, and then re encode the video in an upscaled format?

i know theres some arcsoft or something software that does it in their media player but that's on the fly and for its viewer.... im talking about creating a new video file thats higher resolution (and obv bigger in size) that i can stream so i get better quality of my older dvds.....

any ideas? or am i dreaming?

Don't all software media players upscale anyway? I'm not sure how you can make a DVD look better, other than maybe using some sort of sharpening filter, which just gives the illusion of higher resolution.

Theres an reasonable upscale option in ffdshow couple that with sharpener and it does improve it - justdon't expect HD quality as you'll never get it

just had a quick look at ffdshow... isnt that just a media player though? im looking for some recoding software that will out put to mpeg2 like i have done with my files, as i said, im playing them on the ps3 so need to be as a file for it to read and not just software that adds filters while viewing on the pc
