Hi my sons room has a window that opens onto a single floor extension. I'm always a bit worried someone may shimmy up it during the night when his windows open, and I wondered if anyone had any solutions that don't look gash. My thought was to put a metal plate top and bottom that would limit how far the hinges can slide, but wasn't sure if anyone else had tried that?

We have these on all our second floor windows, easy to take off when you want to fully open. They wouldn't stop someone that really wanted to get in, but they'd slow them down and make a noise trying to force them open.

Edit: More importantly, then can be taken off quickly in an emergency. Not sure your metal plate idea would be the same.

Yeah I've seen that type but that's what I'd class as looking gash :p . I know the plates eoulsmt be quick to remove, so may have other issues. I could replace the window with a smaller side opening one amd a top opening one so just leave the top open but that seems overkill.

They're not beautiful, no lol, but you don't see them after a while (if that makes sense)
