Hi folks

I'm currently riding a 2022 Giant Fastroad e+ EX Pro and cover ~250km per 5 day week commuting (I'm in NZ so fully metric distances). I've currently got a cheapo Bell helmet but worried due to the speeds I do (roughly 42kmh average as I ride in cleats) that the back of my head is kinda exposed due to the shape of the bell. I also wear some cheapo 'wiggles' sunglasses with interchangeable lenses which work well but fog up in winter and with the water gets in from the sides due to the wind direction.

I've been looking at new helmets that come down further at the back of the head and around the ears a bit more to protect against the back of my head smacking on the pavement.. I've been hit by cars twice in the past 4 years plus come off due to grease and other stuff on the road.

I've seen a few 'urban' style helmets with either integrated visors or magnetic clasp visors like the Lazer Urbanize or the Kask Urban R and wondered if anyone had any thoughts on these style of helmets, performance with rain and water spray and generally fitting etc. Obviously most decent brands will have crash tested for safety so I'm not so worried there but wondered what daily use would be like? The integrated visor would save me from having to fumble around, often with gloves on and through webbing or in to my waterproof backback for the glasses as the rain can be quite horizontal in Auckland in winter and gets pretty gnarly.

Aprpeciate any thoughts or comments people may have from either direct use or from conversations with friends etc.

Thanks,

Chris

If you are going at that speed most of the time you could just wear a full face helmet. Modern MTB ones are well ventilated and offer good protection.

I had considered a full face, especially due to the front chin coverage but they would still leave me requiring some form of visor... I guess I'm after more back of head protection and ease of access to a visor as Auckland is known to have 4 seasons in one day and at the moment in the middle of winter it can be 16 degrees and suddnely rain and get really windy and cold and then equally as suddenly turn dry and sunny again...

Yeah I realised as much :) My bell has a wee visor like the full face MTB helmets, I'm just after something to keep the rain off be easily accessible... NZ doesn't carry anything and most places won't ship but I can get my parents or sister to send stuff over from the UK if anyone has any ideas!

that the back of my head is kinda exposed due to the shape of the bell.
