Hi OC'ers

I recently received my new EP43-UD3L from Overclockers.
Had some hassles recently with another gigabyte board that wasn't 8GB capable with DS memory , so got the EP43 instead.

So Installed and with great joy saw it registered all of my 8GB RAM in the bios.
Off I went and started to get vista 64 OS loaded. Had just finished msn'ing a mate to say it was thumbs up this time by the looks of it!

Spoke to soon as usual!!!!

Just that second the computer switched off, was sitting at the choose locale screen in Vista.

Strange says aye and went for the power switch, no response - zippo.

Off with the hood, checked there were no shorts going on, to be sure lifted board partially out of case to rule out shorts and retried , nothing.
There is a split second power to the board diagnostic leds and then nothing.
No CPU fan spin or case fan action.

Reseated everything and tried again, nothing, cleared CMOS using jumper, nada.

Have another identical case with built in PSU, tried board on that to rule out PSU, same led flash on MB but no start.

Tried with a single stick of RAM , alternated single stick, still dead.

So I am thinking its the MB or the Video card.
I am sure I would get some form of MB bleep or led light if the video card was a goner.

What are your thoughts guys (and gals!)?
Likely just to be a duff MB ?

When I first did my reseat I saw one peg on my CPU cooler was not fully down (clumsy!) but still plenty of heatsink on that CPU I am sure.
Would running for 5 mins without perfect cooler contact blow a chip?
Its an old E6300 1.86 (this is a test rig) but I thought CPUS were a bit more forgiving these days.

Any thoughts gents and if its down to CPU or MB its much more likely to be MB , right?

Cheers

Mooky

Hey guys,

update in this one, really interested what the experts think.
I got my RMA number from gigabyte but so to be double sure before packing it up I thought I would do one last test with just CPU , fan and power.

The mobo sprang to life.
Mmm ok so I then put in a couple of DIMMS of memory the video card and started it again.

It all sprang to life but no video.

Then I noticed I hadnt plugged in the 12v socket. Yay I thought, powered down, popped that sucker in and restarted - nada again.

With the 12v out it looks like the mobo is health, all leds come on, the CPU fan gives a half spin but the case fans and video card fans all turn nicely.

Is this just a sign of a duff board, seems weird though as it looks so healthy otherwise until the 12v goes in!

Any ideas folks?

thanks bud, may still need to RMA then.

Could it been grounding of 12V cable ? Seen so other forum posts with peeps with same issue.

How would I make sure the cable is grounded correctly?

no suggestions are silly at this stage mate! Thanks for input.

Its a seasonic 500W , not the most powerful but it was running a very similar configuration , all be it a AMD 6000 64 x 2 instead of my intel chip and was fine.

Also this machine started and ran for a a little while, (putting on OS) and then stopped working.

Pretty sure PSU is up to snuff

dont have volt meter bud, on my must buy list,
Got a similar case with 350W psu, tried last time with no result. might grab it quick.

I hear you mate. will try it but mind you it did work for 10-15 mins before and I doubt a 500W seasonic is gonna be stressed by an E6300 1.86 and a 8800GT.
Defo good idea on making sure 12V is coming from that cable though

Would I be right to say that due to the fact the video card and case fans spin up on power on with only the 24 pin mobo power on that my processor is most likely ok?
Mother board led come on etc but obvioulsy not gonna boot without that 12v atx in!!

Just so I can be satisfied in my mind mobo is most likely at fault.

Thanks

OC'ers

Think I finally got there with motherboard saga.

First off big respect to OC on super rapid refund of the board I bought in error and returned to them. Fantastic service during whole RMA experience.

I got my new board in from OC and as I have mentioned it was a dud.
I just didn't have the heart to bother OC with it again, they would have thought I was cursed or something!
So RMA'ed straight to Gigabyte , sure enough board had a fault which they repaired and returned straight back to me. All within 5 Days! Super service it has to be said.

I just tried new board and it gets to post and looks healthy, going out tonight so switched it off as if it were to blow I would be on a downer all evening! Looks fine though, fingers crossed.

So when credit is due I feel it needs to be advertised as there are enough moaners in the world.

So well done both OC and Gigabyte after sales services, first rate!
