Ignore the laptop drive, I'm hoping that has a normal 50pin ide connector for a laptop replacement.

This pc will be used for basic use only and will not be Oc'd etc. If you can beat it with anything cheaper. please post.

Any opinions on the motherboard? I really need something very stable here.

Any incompatibilities are a non starter!
Will that ram run fine without massive voltage? I have problems before when the ocz ddr800 refused to post without 2.1v which is annoying.

Regards,
sid

Hello sid, are you looking for more of a HTPC system and how much is the above comming too? :)

Sorry,

It won't be a htpc spec, its a parents pc lol,

Very basic internet use only + office apps

It needs to be stable though and just work. I need to be able to kick it in the balls and it shouldn't even change the expression on its face lol. That stable lol

I know from previous exp that, even minor incompatibility means the above will never happen.

edit/ above comes to about £230ish without the laptop dvdrw which isn't a part of this spec. Can you beat that? Not interested in OC of course.

edit2/ I think the geil ram is not a good idea as it needs higher voltage. I'm thinking of the corsair pc5400 2gb kit now which will run happily at 1.8v

Hello sid, i have chosen a system based around an AMD CPU since it is slightly cheaper than the Intel Core 2 Duo E2140 and is around the same performance. The cheapest Micro-ATX motherboard is also cheaper to that of the Intel motherboards.

Will your parents also be needing a case? :)

Hmm no need for a case,

Is that amd going to be kick in the balls stable?

Also does the motherboard have DVI, I selected that gigabyte one as it had hdmi

Hey sid, i bought a system a couple of weeks ago consisting of the AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4000+ 2.10GHz and the Abit AN-M2 Micro ATX (Socket AM2) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard, I am extremely pleased with it, very reliable and fast. The Abit AN-M2 has both VGA and DVI which is a nice feature. :)
