Hi all,

I have a Phenom 955 BE running at stock which is idleing at 40c and whilst playing games anything up to 67c.

I have 4 x 120mm fans inside. 3 intake and 1 exhaust.

I have tried 3 different CPU coolers now. Stock phenom, Freezer pro rev 2 and Xigmatek Apache.

no matter what im doing i cant get my temps to stay at a reasonable level.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

40c at idle sounds more like the cooler is not making good contact with the chip is there anything obstructing it? What thermal compound are you using?

also what configuration are your case fans as they could be causing more harm than good.

I have one side fan at the bottom sucking in, aswell as a front bottom intake. An exhaust at the top and one more intake at the back just next to the cpu. Ive been fiddling with the fan arrangement all day but nothing seems to help.

The cooler is making plenty of contact. Im using the stock thermal grease from the apache cooler.

Already tried mate. Temps were worse. Lost a couple of C with it the other way as its pushing cool air into the heatsink.

i know the standard Phenom cooler is completely pants and those temperatures wouldnt surprise me with it. also, the Xigmatek Apache rally doesnt look like its up to much. i am surprised by your temperatures with the freezer 7 pro though.

40C at idle is nothing to worry about (i have a £40 cooler and im getting 37C idle in a nice cool room) but 67C at load is something you really want to worry about.

i assume you have tried the obvious solution of reseating the cooler (i'd go with the freezer 7 pro rev 2).

the only things i can think of is that the voltage is far too high. it should be about 1.35V, but sometimes the default goes a lot higher. other than that the only solution i can think of is a far more substantial cooler

I got this at idle with a 955be with cool n quiet off.

Temps are from CPUID and Speedfan.

Ive tried lowering voltage but even just by one increment i freeze on bootup...

Apache isnt a great cooler, no, but surely its capable of general and gaming use?

whats your overclocking settings? 3.5Ghz seems very low for a phenom (although this lazy bugger cant exactly comment)

Get the cooler off and start again re-seat the chip after cleaning all the goop off, the clean the bottom of the heatsink. Apply a thin (microscopically thin) layer of thermal grease to the heatsink (I use some clingfilm on my finger) and rub it right in to the base. on the cpu do the same but a slightly thicker layer. Use the Freezer 7pro by far the best of the coolers your have knocking around ;)

Cleaned and re-seated with new thermal paste.

Hitting max temp of 62c in Intel Burn Test.

Reckon thats safe everyday use now?

Idle seems to be around 35...
