Hi folks

I've just been rung up by family who have an issue with their monitor. They are running a 17" Iiyama CRT and whilst playing a game it apparently "went weird" and reset itself to default settings by the sound of it, which is 60Hz (don't know what resolution it was at).

They put the Hz back up to 85 to eliminate background flicker and now it's coming up with "attention out of range", Google tells me that means the refresh rate is set too high but it doesn't tell me how to fix it.

All it's showing is a black screen with that message when booting into Windows properly, booting to safe mode doesn't give them any options for changing it.

Is there any other way of being able to do it on the one machine? They have tried connecting it to a laptop but they wouldn't know whether they are changing the laptop settings or the CRT settings.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Many thanks in advance :)

safe mode > uninstall nvidia/ati/onboard graphics drivers > reboot into windows normally > re-install. There's other ways to change the refresh rate but this is the only thing I can think of right now :)

Edit: or even this: http://cybernetnews.com/cybernotes-shortcut-to-change-resolutions/ obviously make the shortcut in safe mode. put it somewhere simple like c:\. Boot normally and press win key + R, type C:\name_of_the_shortcut and press enter. Should sort it!

At boot keep pressing F8 to get the safe mode options and select VGA mode. This will boot windows with the lowest video settings so you can change them.
