Hi! Parents have got me updating their machine from 98SE to XP Pro. Hardware all seems fine, apart from the 56k modem, which I need to get working before they'll get me Broadband.

Anyhow, an XP Driver for a "PCTel V.90 K56Flex HSP PCI Modem" please. I looked on DriverGuide and found one that claims to support XP, but doesn'y seem to have a logical installer. :o

TIA (Back on 98 for now  )

Yes that's what I mean :) Extract the contents of the zip file into a folder. Then go into Device Manager and double click on the modem (which will have a yellow exclamation mark next to it) - choose update driver, then tell Windows you will choose the driver. Then point it at the folder you just extracted, select the appropriate file and you're done.

Ok I'm with you on that one of how to install it. Which is the 'appropriate file' BTW?

which will have a yellow exclamation mark next to it

It didn't XP Claimed to have a good driver for it and said it was working properly, but it refused to connect, saying there was no dial tone. No probs in 98 tho.

TIA

Hmm well even if the driver is installed already, you can still install another one, although chances are that the one Windows installed is indeed working correctly. You might have more joy in the internet forum with getting the modem working - it's years since I touched dial-up so I can't remember much about it, sorry :)
