A lady at work wanted rid of her car... so I offered to buy it and sell it on with a view to making a few £.

I'd want to get rid of it quick and not have a couple of £ks worth of junk sat outside. What's the best thing to do with the log book? I don't want to do what you would normally do becuse I'd have to wait for them to send me and new one and it would add an owner to the car.

Please help quickly, I'm on the way to get it!

get her to sign the logbook but leave the date and buyers details blank.

Send it off when you get a buyer.

Explain that it will remain registered to her until its sold.

(and promise not to be a bad boy running up parking and speeding tickets in her name :p )

What car is it?

It's a 2005 (new shape) 1.6 Focus LX Auto, FSH and 58K on the clock. It's the worst, most underpowered plasic piece of **** I have ever driven. I've only ever driven good standard auto's; this cheap Ford auto it truly dire.

I’m sure a granny somewhere will love it. I do hope to god she never tries to overtake though, or it'll prob be the end of her!

How long does it normally take to get the log book back? She wouldn’t let me take it without filling everything out. I would love to get rid asap.

Only paid £2.5k for it, going to put it up close to £4k with a view to get £3.5k or more for it.

I hope you give her a good drink from your profit!

As for the V5, knowing how inept Swansea is with V5's (mine for my 328i took nearly a YEAR to appear!) I would not send it off , let the next owner have that hassle.

As the truck man says, it wont look any worse selling it not in your name as having it in your name for a few days.

Edit oh well scrap that if she sent it off :)

Iv had log books back in anything from 5 days to 3 weeks before if you do decide to change.

The seller sent it off tonight. I guess I can't sell it until I get the new one back?

Thanks

Just sell it without the book, mention it in the add, it will put some off but not others.

Sorry to sound stupid; how would that work?

You tell the buyer you have applied for the V5, give them the history and any other relevant documents you do have for the car, write them a reciept and take the money.

They then apply for a V5 and you inform DVLA you sold it.

Tell them you bought it for the wife and she hates it or whatever.

In your experiance (or anyone elses) would this not put 9/10 buyers off?

Its going to put some off, but whats the worst that happens? You reword the add when the V5 turns up to omit the bit about not having one.

If it sells before its all good, if it dosent, well, what have you lost.

I bought my Bentley without a V5 :)

What do I do when it's sold then, just write a letter to the DVLA saying that I've sold it?

I thought the Bentley was cheap. ;)

In the past, I bought an Escort RS Turbo without a V5 and then found it to be stolen! - Thankfully, the dealer I bought if from was ok and refunded me, lucky I know!

So, yes it would put me off!

Yes just tell them its sold, you might be able to call i cant remember now.

Theres no way i would give someone who bought my car the full log book without taking the sellers section out. When i sold my car 2 months ago, the guy tried to get me to leave the log book over night with him ( He was a small trader). Told me his wife might have the car instead of doing it through his company, but i wasnt having none of it.

Exactly and only an idiot will buy a car from somebody claiming to be a private seller where the address the car is sold from and the V5 dont match!
