Hi folks,

Hoping someone can help me urgently. I am trying to connect a LaCie PCI 400 firewire card to my OCuk PC (bought last year). When I installed the card initially my Saffire Pro 40 soundcard was not recognised but it turned out that it worked when I used the firewire port already on the PC.

Anyway, I digress..........I'm presuming the reason why the LaCie card is not working is because I need to connect some internal power to it, and when I tried it previously I had not done this.

I see a small 4 pin white plug on the LaCie and I see an appropriate cable in the PC. Problem......OCuk have the PC so neatly cabled that I haven't got a clue where the other end of the cable should be and it will mean having to break a cable tidy.

Basically HELP!! I know this is basic stuff but I'm sitting here with the PC in bits and would really appreciate some urgent advice.

Many thanks!!

Snipped the cable tidy and ran the cable from the psu to the firewire card.............it STILL won't recognise my Focusrite Saffire pro 40 soundcard. Arrrggghhhh!!!!!!!!

It looks like it uses a floppy drive power connector as shown below.

I'm not sure if it actually needs this as the user manual doesn't say anything about connecting it.

If you haven't already you'll possibly need to install the drivers for the card to work.

If you want to connect the power cable you'll need to bite the bullet and get the cable out from where OcUK have tidied it away.

Cheers for replying lads. No driver disk came with it and Windows supposedly has the drivers built in......hmmmm.

If it was working then Windows would have gone through the "new hardware found" process when you started the PC after fitting the card.

Take it out and try re-seating it.

Ensure the card is fitting properly into the PCI slot and isn't being lifted out when you screw the backplate to the case.

Thanks mate, I think I will have to do that. I am checking in device manager - should the card show up theren in devices and printers with the likes of external HDs and wireless receivers? It isn't and I'm currently scanning "add a device". The blue light is on the back of the PC from the LaCie firewire card but do you think it should show up in device manager?

However, when I look at the list in device manager under IEEE 1394 Bus host controllers I get 2 x 1394 OHCI compliant host controller (legacy) - is this the PCI card or would these be something to do with the firewire port on my PC motherboard?

Sorry for all the rambling and questions.....I'm just finding myself getting more and more frustrated and confused!!

Thanks a million.

Take the card out and then start the PC.

If the entries are still in device manager then you know they don't belong to the card.

Then try refitting the card ensuring it goes down fully into the PCI slot.

When you screw the backplate to the case check that the card hasn't moved out of slot.
